….so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God….Col 1:10 NIV
Have you ever heard someone say “You are what you eat”? You know, eat healthy, be healthy. That’s common sense, right?
What about other choices? How do the things we think about, the things we do, the things which attract us, affect us?
Scripture says “They followed worthless idols and themselves became worthless.” 2 Kings 17:15 NIV
As we consider all that the world says we should be and do and have, we are lead away from our Lord. Our thoughts can lead us into negativity – about others who have more than we do, about those who seem to be opposing us at every turn, about our situation and how it seems it will never change. As a result, we may choose to respond in ways that are neither good for us nor bring any improvement to the issue at hand. We perpetuate the undesirable results of our unworthy thoughts and actions.
God leads us in another direction, toward a life with him that brings glory to him and joy to us. Seeking and following him offers us freedom to make choices that have better outcomes. The world offers us many attractive choices, often leaving us empty and lost but God invites us to follow him filling us with his love and grace.
THERE IS NO ONE MORE WORTHY TO FOLLOW
Paul says “Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your mind and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse.” Phil 4:8 The Message
Time and life are precious. Are you following ‘worthless idols’ or making worthy choices bringing glory to God in the process? The quality of your life may depend on it.
